If
ever a destination inspired romance, it’s the Hawaiian Islands.
Hawaii has long been America’s dream destination for couples wanting to
get married, commit to each other (when legal marriage is forbidden),
renew their vows and, especially, for honeymooning.
Strolling along a white-sand beach, enjoying an island cocktail at
sunset, and relaxing to the lilting melodies of Hawaiian music. Every
new couple longs to be in Hawaii and experience the magic together.
The pull of the islands is unwavering. If anything, Hawaii is more
popular than ever for couples in love. In 2005, research shows that
nearly 9% more couples came to the islands for marriages, commitment
ceremonies, and honeymoons than the year before.
And when they get here, these romance couples want to experience all
that Hawaii has to offer. Following is a snapshot of the most popular
activities:
Sightseeing:
97%.
Recreation: 97%. Swimming, sunbathing, and beach activities
receive the most attention at 90%
Entertainment: 91%. Fine dining tops this category at 78%.
Culture: 85%. At 69%, more couples choose a Polynesian show or
luau than any other cultural activity.
Transportation: 97%. Not surprisingly, 93% of couples prefer a
rental car.
See a pattern here? Couples love Hawaii, but they want to enjoy it as
one and create memories for a lifetime.
They also tend to spend more. Honeymooners especially like higher-end
accommodations and services and frequently choose to upgrade their
travel options.
The islands are exotic, magical, and filled with beautiful moments of
aloha – exactly the experience couples are seeking to start their lives
together.
